The Substance (Full Review)

From the very beginning, I was totally hooked on The Substance. It’s not just a scary movie; it’s a deep dive into some serious social issues. The director, Coralie Fargeat, really knows how to make you feel something. The visuals and sound are top-notch, totally immersing you in the story. Fargeat immediately grabs your attention with a super intense pace that keeps you on the edge of your seat the whole time. Each shot is carefully crafted to make you feel like you’re right there in the action. Sometimes a little bit too close up and personal with the camera. The camera work is phenomenal and this movie has some of the best looking shots I have ever seen. I can easily say that this movie will indeed be studied in film schools.

The movie starts with this beautiful, peaceful scene that quickly turns into something creepy. Fargeat mixes in some classic horror stuff like Psycho and The Shining, but she puts her own spin on it. She’s like a horror movie fan herself, and The Substance is her masterpiece and love letter to the genre. The sound design is amazing. They mix together all sorts of sounds to make you feel on edge, even when the characters are just eating. You can hear every small detail. The best comparison to the sound design is ASMR. The visuals! Each frame is like a work of art. Fargeat doesn’t just use colors and textures to make the movie look pretty; she uses them to tell a story. She challenges the traditional horror genre and presents a visually stunning and thought-provoking narrative. The symmetry in a lot of shots shows the constant need for perfection. A great way to represent what the main character's goals are.

The Substance is a must-watch for anyone who loves horror movies. One scene really stuck out to me. It was super weird and beautiful at the same time. The ending of the movie to be more precise. A great chaotic gore fest that had my jaw on the ground. I could not believe what I was seeing on screen. It is one of those scenes that will stay with you. If there are people who love body horror, this movie is made for you. This movie made me feel a lot of things. It had me anxious, but it also made me think about myself. The characters were real; they felt like people I know. What I have felt getting older myself. They went through so much that everyone goes through, like getting older and figuring out who you are. Finding your inner self and being content where you are at in life. Demi Moore was amazing in the movie. She played a character who was both strong and vulnerable. Her complexity of the character was perfectly acted. She could show you how tough she was, and she could also show you how scared she was. Her face could say more than the words she said. When it comes time for the Oscars, she should be in talks. Her range in this movie was incredible.

If you like horror movies, you’ll love this one. It has some classic horror movie references. It’s about the story and the characters that make this movie so memorable. It’s a really deep and thought-provoking movie. Each time you watch The Substance, you’ll find something new to love about it. It’s a thrilling mix of old and new, and it’ll make you think about the film in a whole new way. The score is bonkers and complements the movie so well. I cannot stop listening to it. Great themes! A powerful commentary on how society treats beauty and aging. Fargeat’s script doesn’t hold back, and it’ll make you question the values that we hold dear. The film really hits home when it comes to the emotional toll of these unrealistic expectations. It’s a cinematic masterpiece! The Substance is a must-watch. Trust me, you won’t regret it!
